In 1963, I assisted my dad in constructing our first cabin on Lake Martin in Dadeville, Alabama, marking the inception of my long association with Lake Martin. Throughout the years and regardless of our place of residence, we maintained a tradition of taking Spring and Fall trips to our favorite family destination.
Bluebirds were always cherished visitors on our point at the lake, where a bluebird nest box adorned our dogwood tree. Regrettably, the dogwood tree reached the end of its life, prompting me to relocate it to one of our large water oak trees nearby on our point. Every year, we diligently cleaned the bluebird house, and as a result, we typically witnessed a nesting at least twice a year.
In 2015, both my parents passed away after enjoying a remarkable 72 years of marriage. In their memory, we made the decision to construct a new family lake house, which also incorporated additional garage space where I was able to designate an area for a small wood shop to enjoy in my retirement. I then embarked on my venture of crafting bluebird nest boxes and their related accessories.
As the years passed, I gained a deeper understanding of bluebirds and their needs. Initially, I constructed tree-mounted nest boxes, but now my objective is to promote pole-mounted setups equipped with predator guards. The presence of predators like squirrels, raccoons, and snakes led to the destruction of numerous nests. To address this issue, I devised a user-friendly and cost-effective pole installation system. Additionally, I developed budget-friendly solutions for squirrel guards and predator guards.
MAXX BOARDS offers a comprehensive, high-quality nest box setup or bird feeder setup at a very reasonable cost. I am confident that when these products are correctly installed, they can provide a secure and protected environment for the birds we love to watch and listen to.
By request, I have started building cutting boards, charcuterie boards and other seasonal specialty items.
